9.16 Introducing Route Maps

Route Maps have the following characteristics:

  1. They are processed in top-down fashion (stops at first match)
  2. They are reference points for other configuration tools; they have no impact upon configuration unless referenced.
  3. They are named rather than numbered
  4. Can be used for packet and route manipulation, as well as redistribution.
  5. Use “match” (to test conditions) and “set” (to specify actions) criteria

Route maps are similar to access-list, with the major difference that route maps can use set commands to modify traffic.
