Route Maps have the following characteristics:
- They are processed in top-down fashion (stops at first match)
- They are reference points for other configuration tools; they have no impact upon configuration unless referenced.
- They are named rather than numbered
- Can be used for packet and route manipulation, as well as redistribution.
- Use “match” (to test conditions) and “set” (to specify actions) criteria
Route maps are similar to access-list, with the major difference that route maps can use set commands to modify traffic.
