Common uses of route maps include the following.
- Redistribution (Provides a more versatile alternative to distribute-lists, as you can modify metrics using set commands)
- Route-filtering
- PBR/Policy-based Routing (Override routing table information for routing decisions in a versatile manner, since you can use match commands to classify the traffic you want to policy route)
- Defining BGP routing policy (Route Maps are the primary tool for modifying path attributes on a per-neighbor basis)
