9.17 Route Map Applications

Common uses of route maps include the following.

  1. Redistribution (Provides a more versatile alternative to distribute-lists, as you can modify metrics using set commands)
  2. Route-filtering
  3. PBR/Policy-based Routing (Override routing table information for routing decisions in a versatile manner, since you can use match commands to classify the traffic you want to policy route)
  4. Defining BGP routing policy (Route Maps are the primary tool for modifying path attributes on a per-neighbor basis)
