Weight is the first value in the BGP path selection process.
It is Cisco proprietary.
It is local to the router, and is only locally significant to the router making its path selection process.
The value can range from 0 to 65535, with the default set to 0.
In the illustration above, R1 will select the route associated with AS Path 65030 65020 and enter it into the routing table because the weight metric is higher on the path through R2. Note there is no possibility of load-balancing, only a single path is entered into the routing table.
