Here are some notes about PBR:

  • Overrides IP routing, which is destination-based.
  • Applied to incoming, or locally-generated packets
  • Requires a route map to (a) match specific traffic, and (b) set routing policy

Simply put, PBR is used to bypass the routing table in a flexible manner.
