10.14 Configuring IP SLA

Note: IP SLA configuration syntax may vary dependent upon platform or software version.

Define the IP SLA probe: The following example shows two actions, including the configuration of an ICMP probe destined to ping 10.1.1.1 every ten seconds from source interface Eth0/0, and a mandatory scheduling of that named SLA operation to begin immediately and continue indefinitely.

Define the tracking object and link to the probe: The following example shows the creation of a tracking object, which references the previously created probe and defines its use, which is to validate reachability.

To view details and statistics of these two configuration items, use the show ip sla configuration and show track commands, as illustrated below.

All that’s left is to apply the track to a policy or a route. Otherwise, it will not affect traffic forwarding.
