12.13 Configuring BGP Neighbors

The following picture illustrates an EBGP relationship and an IBGP relationship. The configuration follows.

When the remote-as command specifies the same ASN as the router process (local ASN), it forms an IBGP relationship.

Once the commands are specified, the TCP session forms and peering takes place.

Note: by default, EBGP neighbors must be directly connected, while IBGP neighbors merely only have to reside within the same AS (and be paired with an IGP).
